Already Open Water Certified? Here’s Why Your Advanced Course Belongs on the Great Barrier Reef

Getting your Open Water certification is only the beginning. Once you’ve experienced your first few dives, the natural next step is building confidence, improving your skills and exploring more of what lies beneath the surface.
And there aren’t many better places to do it than the Great Barrier Reef.
Take Your Diving Further
An Advanced Open Water course is all about gaining more experience underwater.

Rather than spending all your time in a classroom, you’ll develop your skills through different types of dives while learning alongside an instructor.
It’s a chance to become a more confident, capable diver while experiencing conditions and environments beyond your initial Open Water training.
Learning new dive skills is one thing. Learning them while surrounded by coral reefs and marine life is another.

Aboard SV Summer Jo, you’ll head beyond the Whitsunday Islands to explore the Outer Great Barrier Reef, where our itinerary can include reef systems such as Elizabeth, Kennedy, Faith and Seagull Reef depending on conditions.
With multiple days at sea, the experience gives you time to dive, learn, relax and get straight back in the water.
For many divers, their first night dive is one they never forget.
The reef changes once the sun disappears.

With a dive torch lighting the way, you’ll experience the underwater world from an entirely different perspective and may encounter marine life you wouldn't normally see during daylight hours.
It’s also a great opportunity to develop your confidence underwater in new conditions.
More Than Just Another Certification
The real benefit of advancing your diving isn't simply adding another certification card to your collection.
It’s becoming more comfortable underwater, improving your skills and opening the door to a wider variety of dive experiences around the world.
And doing it on a multi-day Great Barrier Reef liveaboard means the course itself becomes part of the adventure.
